Frequently asked questions

How do I become a mental health first aider?

To become a Mental Health First Aider you must complete the Adult Mental Health First Aid course. This course is the most comprehensive awareness and skills course available and is based on international research and evidence.  Every course we deliver is led by a trained and qualified instructor who has completed a training programme accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health.  When you have completed the course, you will receive a certificate to confirm that you are a trained Mental Health First Aider.

What other courses are available, if we don't want the Adult Mental Health First Aid course?

Mind // shift also offers the Mental Health Aware course - an introductory course that offers some basic skills and awareness for teams, wherever they work.  We also have a half-day wellbeing course and can develop tailor-made courses too.  In addition to this, for those who have already done the two-day course, we offer a half-day refresher.

Are any of your courses available online.

All of our courses are available online, and face-to-face. For online courses, no special software is required - just a laptop computer and a good internet connection.

Does mind // shift offer courses to individuals?

Yes! We run online courses each month that individuals can join.  Dates are published on the relevant page of our website.

How much do you charge to deliver in-house training?

Every organisation is different and we can tailor a package precisely to meet your needs.   Get in touch and we'd be happy to quote a cost for a one-off course or a series of courses.

Is your course the nationally accredited MHFA training course?

Yes!   The Adult MHFA course offered by mind//shift is based on international evidence and is accredited by MHFA England.  The Mental Health Aware and half-day refreshers are also certified by MHFA England.  Beware of courses that are not fully accredited by MHFA Engalnd, which may call themselves 'First Aid for Mental Health' or similar.  There are also fully-recorded courses that have no interaction with live qualified instructors. Again, these are not accredited by MHFA England and do not provide the same levels of knowledge or support.

Mind//shift instructors provide a course that has been written by experts and grounded in research. Evaluation shows that MHFA courses make a lasting difference in people’s knowledge and confidence around mental health. Our instructors have participated in training which is accredited by the Royal Society of Public Health.
